A Beast’s Rage

This is a painting of a rampaging African Elephant. When people see this painting for the first time they say the elephant comes alive in the painting with a lot of energy. I like that. When i was in South Africa a while back my dad was taking pictures while we were on Safari. He annoyed one particular elephant with his incessant photography who proceeded to storm upon us. This is how I remember the feelings (and energy) of that day. It’s not based on one of my father’s photographs.

This was painted in pastel pencils. Pastels were used for rougher (and larger, solid) areas.
